We are definitely in the midst of a babywearing revolution in which women feel the need for products that will secure their baby and keep it close, at the same time allowing the mother freedom of movement while promoting parent-child bonding. Anthropological evidence has shown that the human pattern of infant care has long been one of carrying babies. Indigenous cultures wore their babies and babywearing appears to have originated as a part of the nomadic culture of the early Mesolithic hunters and gatherers in Asia. Early Pleistocene migrations probably brought the tradition to North America where the Native American Indians had an infant carrier called a Cradleboard. Yet it is only in recent years that researchers have confirmed the wisdom of this timeless practice and enlightened us with an alternative way of raising children.

Although we are no longer “hunter/gatherers”, today’s parents have become increasingly mobile modern nomads: traveling world wide with their children; working in their home offices or taking their infants to work; and participating in a multiplicity of versatile activities. The benefits are wide ranging apart from making the parenting process easier and more fun. Most of all each new generation of babies can be ushered into our world with the best loving support possible.
Karin Frost, president and designer of the ERGO Baby Carrier, endeavors to keep this tradition alive by designing products to meet this surge of support for Attachment Parenting. She is pleased to announce the launch of a new addition to our ERGO line of products with the introduction of THE ERGO REVERSIBLE PAPOOSE COAT. This coat is the same as the Wool Papoose Coat in terms of function, design and features. The difference is that the Reversible Papoose Coat is made of one layer of Ultrex (the industry’s equivalent to Gortex) and one layer of Microdenier fleece. The coat is reversible and is lighter weight than the Wool Papoose Coat. When the coat is reversed, it is water resistant. It comes in one color, a Soft Grey and comes in one size. It will keep your baby warm and dry in its carrier with you under one coat! The joy of carrying a baby in winter can become physically burdensome and uncomfortable and put a strain on both parent and child so be prepared for the Cold Winter Weather. It will be available just in time during the first week of December.
