I am a mom of five boys. My youngest will be six months old next week. With all of my children I had a sling or another homemade front/back carrier. After prolonged use with either of them I ached all over. And my youngest son hated the sling even as a very small infant. When I tried my other carrier his little legs turned blue. I found myself trying to "rock" a double stroller or shopping cart to sooth a screaming baby almost constantly. I fell behind in my house work and could only accomplish anything when I let him scream, had his brothers juggle him back and forth among each other or he was sleeping. It was awful.
My best friend, a mother of four small children, recommended the ERGO. She had hers only a few days a really loved it. I was skeptical. She let me borrow her instructional DVD and even modeled her ERGO for me.
As I watched the DVD, I fell in love. I bargained with my husband to allow me to purchase the ERGO. (He had real hard time understanding why I'd want to spend so much on one item...especially when my other carriers were free.) I couldn't believe how excited I was just from placing the order! My friend assured me that it wouldn't take very long for me to get my ERGO but I still figured on a seven to ten day delivery time.
I did forget to mention that I am also a doula and midwife. I received a call from a laboring mom and headed out the door for her birth. My baby was going along because this home birthing mother was happy to have "the added incentive". As I left the house, I thought about how I wish my ERGO was here but didn't think I'd see it for another week. I was thrilled when I grabbed the mail and my ERGO was there!!!! I was able to use it for that labor. And he was asleep in plenty of time for the delivery.
I've now had my ERGO for four days. Over the last two days I've swept and mopped floors, done laundry, cooked meals, done dishes and gone shopping all with my baby in my ERGO. And my back and shoulders and neck aren't sore at all!!!! The baby loves it too. He sleeps and eats in the ERGO. In fact he is so comfy in the ERGO he actually prefers to fall asleep in it!
I love having a large family and both my husband and I are looking forward to adding five or so more to our brood. But up until I got my ERGO I didn't know how I would be able to hack being a good mom and decent housekeeper. I actually found myself thinking, "Five is enough." Over the last few days, my thoughts have changed back to, "bring it on!"
I can't Thank You enough!!!!! This is a product that actually does what it says and in doing so, has given me back my motivation for big family life. And the best part, I don't have to feel like I either have to neglect my baby or cook supper. With my ERGO I can do all of my duties and have a happy baby too.
