Diversity

NancyTaylor.jpg

Hello,
I just purchased your carrier, and so far it's working wonderfully. Once home, I enthusiastically sought feedback and additional information online...and visited your website.

I must say, I'm more than just a little disappointed that a company like yours isn't more sensitive to demonstrating an appreciation for diversity on your website.

I didn't see many people of color, especially African-Americans.  I am an African-American woman who...frankly feels quite unappreciated.  I paid the same $100 that all of your customers pay.

I appreciate the organic option, the fact that you make it a point to share your ethical business practices, factory oversight, and the non-hiring of children. Surely a company like yours is aware that there are no black faces on your website...and I don't believe it was an oversight or an accident that there are none.

Mommies are mommies, whether brown or beige. It would bring me great joy to see more companies include us in their marketing. There is money to be made by being inclusive. Not to mention the good will you're trying to demonstrate would be further exemplified by showing an appreciation for diversity...on your own website.

Because I really like your product, I thought I'd take a minute to write a note urging you to be more outwardly inclusive. We notice...and I'm not the only one.

Dear Nancy,
It was good of you to take the time to write to us. I agree with you, our desire to include people of all ethnic backgrounds on our website certainly does not come through. We are a company that has, really only been around for about four years. Our models are local acquaintances. I notice we have only one picture on our testimonial page of an African-American woman and her baby in the ERGO. We would love to have a picture of you and your baby along with your comments. We could then put it on our website. If you have friends who would do the same, we could give more credit to a wider ethnic presence.

Any other advice or suggestions you might have would be very welcome.

Sincerely yours,
Robert Frost
